Well we all knew it was going to happen someday. I have finally been granted the opportunity to stay at home and take care of the house, family, and particularly my son. Though I have not been able to completely detach myself from the entirety of the Marine Corps as a whole, I have been able to focus over 95 percent of my time on the home life and many nuances associated with this most cherished of occupations. That being said, I will state it now that after only 4 days, I would take staying home with my son everyday without a moments notice. The satisfaction that I get as a Marine Corps Officer is unmatched anywhere yet that I have found professionally, however it pales in comparison to the satisfaction I get each day with my son.
Now before you go saying that I have not experienced the hardships and monotony of a true homemaker, keep in mind I have at least 2 more weeks of this and am looking forward to updating you throughout this fun process. I will also include 1-3 positives and negatives that I notice as a father and third party observer to this wonderful job. I hope you enjoy reading about my experience as much as I enjoy experiencing it.
Negative
1. Monotony, doing things 3/4/5 times a day is getting a little old. But I do the same thing in the Marine Corps so as bad as it is there, at least I'm doing them in my own home.
2. Lifting has become a privilege, if I wasn't 30-40 minutes away from my gym this probably wouldn't be a problem. But due to this distance, I have been relegated to Cross Fit workouts and running, not bad but not a preference.
Positive
1. Doesn't matter what job I have or how many times I have to do it, the only person judging me on how I do it is my son (and my wife correcting me of course but she can only crutch after me so fast while she is recovering from surgery) and it always seems that he approves of my efforts.
2. I'm on my own schedule, yes certain things have to be done at certain times. However if I wake up early enough and get the things done that will be a hindrance with little man around, the maintenance of those tasks are minimal at best.
Again, I know there is much more but I hope to continue working on this throughout the next two weeks. I have a feeling they will become more aggressive the closer we get to the holidays and the closer we get to a more stressful holiday time.
